When the site in Queens which became Shea Stadium was offered to O’Malley as a city-owned stadium, he turned it down. What he said at the time, I thought was interesting. He said, “Well first of all, I want to be in Brooklyn. These are the Brooklyn Dodgers. If I’m going to be outside Brooklyn, I could be 30 miles outside of Brooklyn or I could be 3,000 miles outside of Brooklyn and it’s not going to matter to me.”
