Post article about Gelbs

Before we even begin, I thought that after KB left that SNY should eliminate that position. The shadow would be long, and frankly GKR are enough for me, and I often find the in-game stuff a distraction.  SNY tends to over-produce games (Keith sitting in the photo box being an example, what did we get out of that?) and should let the game breathe.   OK on to the Post article….

OK I have been dancing around this on twitter and haven’t gone all-in because I like Gelbs, but since Gelbs went there….

Kevin told me when I was first starting that he always judged a successful report based on how much the three of those guys would then talk about it in the inning ahead.

Bingo.

Now that we all understand this….. SNY has Gelbs miscast.

They keep going to him in the middle of the game and Gelbs will go on about Duda’s hitting approach or something and get……no reaction.

They should have the guy bounce around and capture the feel of the day.  Be a man of the people.  If I need someone to break down hitting I can listen to Keith Hernandez.  Go get some Cookie Dough or talk to some poor soul whose first row seats now have a net in front of it or just hang around with the t-short enthusiasts.  Walk around the stores.  Go ask people why they are in the rotunda in the 6th.  Next week, give me a tour of whatever Mariners Park is called these days.

I like Gelbs, but stop asking him to do an inning interviewing Gorman Thomas when we’re trying to watch the game.  This isn’t on Gelbs, it’s on the SNY bosses who overproduce the games.  Let the games breathe, Let Gelbs relax.  And pay attention to the GKR reaction, more often than not they ignore the segment.
