OK millennials, here’s a Mets player you’ve actually head of thanks to David Wright.
Was Ed Kranepool the best Mets player of the 1970s?
The last of the Original Mets (of you overlook some pesky details but let’s go with the legend) – Eddie was fascinating to me as a kid because he had been around forever.
Most games. 2nd most ABs. 2nd most hits that decade (at 705. Divide that by ten and you’ll understand how awful the Mets were.) Most doubles. 4th most Home Runs with 56 (divide that one by ten as well.) and first in Total Bases.
Was Ed Kranepool the greatest Mets player of the 1970s? Holy crap yeah maybe – but wow he played all ten seasons and you start dividing those numbers and wind up with a guy cranking out 70 hits and 5 home runs….jeez and you guys wonder why I loved Daniel Murphy hitting .289 with 12? I wasn’t raised on SteroidsBall like you people. Holy crap.
