This morning I was on my 1978 Mets kick, and started looking Jerry Koosman’s numbers and wondered what his stats might look like if he escaped in June 1977 like Seaver did.
Kooz ate 20 and 15 losses (remember you do have to be a pretty good SP to lose 20 games), but then WON 20 and 16 in his first two years in Minnesota. Even if we don’t add on any wins, kets shave off just 10 career losses and have Koosman finish 222-199. Of course feel free to add on three hypothetical wins and make is 225-199.
Anyway, that’s for Earth-2 Mets.I also “discovered” that Koosman faced the Mets THREE times in 1985. Clearly I had that Total Recall’d out of my brain.
So I poked Greg Prince and asked if he has 1000 words on this, and of course he does. So I refer you to Faith & Fear which answers the question – what happens when The Young Dwight Gooden faces off against Jerry Koosman!
