SLACKISH REACTION: The Mets game was horribly boring except for the Conforto HR, with a great call by Gare – which Gare is why you should save your signature call for spots like that. Other than that, the Gary/Ron booth tends to be the worst combination SNY throws at us. There’s just no pizzazz in that combo because, as we know, Keith brings the danger. I would have killed for Gelbs and Johnny Bench last night. The 4th place Mets are still 2.5 back.
Rip Tide pitched 4 scoreless innings of “1 hit” ball and the 1 hit was a ball that two OFers stared at that dropped in. Since nobody touched it it was a “triple” that totally should have been an out.
On the other hand he did give up a lot of 375 foot fly outs.
The jury is still out here – I could make fun of Mickey for “fixing” pitchers (or not), and I am not sure Matt didn’t just have fortune on his side.
It was a wet night in LA, and the ball was not carrying. I really could see a scenario where he gave up 7 HRs.
However, I always point out the guy’s record – and he handed in 4 scoreless innings, so there’s no way to call that bad. Supermodels for everyone in LA last night.
Anyway unlike most of the nonsense you will see on the internet freaking out about his start, I actually watched this one – three innings anyway, the game was a total slog and I couldn’t stay up any more for a 4th. The Reds batted for a full half hour in the Top 1 and only scored 1 run. I seriously watched an entire episode of Barry while they were up. Super slog game.
Finally, looks like the MH32 undershirts aren’t in yet.
