SLACKISH REACTION: I didn’t see anything but the last two outs. I was at a bar that was showing the NHL Game 7, the NBA Playoffs and the Yankees so I didn’t even have the courage to ask for the Mets-Marlins. Tonight I am seeing Solo and today I have to Actually Work again (booo) so not much bloggin’ happening.
Fortunately my man E is working the Mets media relations this week…
Jacob deGrom: Spun 7.0 shutout innings, allowed four hits and struck out eight…Has allowed one run in his last 33.1 innings (0.27 ERA) in his last six starts and lowered his season ERA to 1.54…In that six-start span, deGrom has struck out 47, walked 10 and allowed 21 hits.
deCiti: Is 3-0 with a 1.45 ERA (five earned runs/31.0 innings) at Citi Field this season with 45 strikeouts and four walks (five starts)…Lowered his career home ERA to 2.26 (93 earned runs/370.0 innings…The 2.26 home ERA is second-lowest among active pitchers with 300 or more innings at home…Clayton Kershaw is first (2.07 ERA).
Mets pitching struck out 10 batters last night…It was the club’s eighth straight game with nine or more strikeouts, tied for the longest streak in franchise history (also July 24-31, 2016).
And most importantly: Time: 2:47
Gotta feel for The One True Ace.
Yes I see the Gossipy Thing about the Notable Ex-Met. I choose to ignore him and this story.
I wrote at length about Memorial Day merch, do me a favor and actually read it. It’s not just a caps post.
Looks like Mickey Hodges and the game pissed off Jay Bruce by pulling him for the lineup so late for a guy who had just gotten off a plane. (Via NY Post)
“Obviously it wasn’t the most ideal situation for me, but the team makes the decisions. I’m an employee,” said Bruce, who was batting cleanup for Wednesday’s series finale against the Marlins despite hitting just .232 with a .672 OPS. “I’m ready when they need me and if they don’t, I’ll be ready when they do.”
The 4th place Mets face the 31-19 Brewers next.
