Mets Police Morning Laziness: Where There’s a Will, There’s a Wilmer!

It’s crazy how (often) Wilmer Flores can cap off a wild day.

SLACKISH REACTION: Obviously, the last twenty four hours were fairly different for many in the Mets organization, with the news of Sandy Alderson stepping down, due to his reoccurrence with cancer.

After I posted the news yesterday, many wanted me to pick on Jeff Wilpon for forcing Alderson’s hand, and to a certain extent, I can see why one would say that Jeff didn’t show much emotion or compassion when he read his intro statement, and his comments on the disappointing season were oddly timed, given the severity and seriousness of Sandy’s health. With that being said, it’s hard to take too much from a five minute press conference, and only time will tell what the Mets plan on doing with Sandy, when he returns to full health. If I had to make a guess, though, I’d say Alderson is through being the general manager for the Mets.

I had the (incorrect) assumption that this news would create for a tired and low-energy game, but I was wrong.

I saw a good pitching performance, a benches clearing incident, and a walk-off win by Flores. That’s about as good as a baseball game gets.

UNRELATED HARVEY NEWS: I totally missed this last night, but I thought this was too good to let slide. Thanks to Jim Brunetti for putting this on my radar.

I’m a big fan of the organist in Atlanta, who will play just about anything anytime, and made the game really enjoyable when I took a trip down there last year. This, though, has got to be the best work he’s done so far.
