I like watching Mets games.
Except lately I don’t.
Coming off my vacation I was excited to jump back into my nightly routine of Mets and riffing twitter jokes, only to find out they were off on Monday.
SoTuesday I was ready and….I was bored five minutes in. I had watched soccer all day, so maybe that was it, maybe it was that Gary Apple-Ron is a pretty low energy booth…I dunno….but I struggled, but I watched my Mets.
Last night again, same reaction. I couldn’t wait for the darn thing to end. It was like homework.
Tonight they are off and I am relieved! I have lofty DVR aspirations.
I decided last homestead that I was taking back Saturdays. I did this last year – I just choose to blow off the Saturday games and do something else (PS4, DVR, Netflix, hang, watch a movie) and it worked well for me. That’s likely starting again this weekend.
Am I quitting on the Mets? No of course not. But it’s a bad entertainment product right now. It’s just not fun. I can’t even watch The Future because the manager seems to hate Dom and thinks Rosario can only play twice a week or he gets tired. So unless JDG is out there, there isn’t really reason to watch (hmmm maybe Jake goes Saturday).
It’s not just me. I saw the T-Shirt Guy tweet that he did Something Else last Friday and enjoyed it. Last night Greg Prince mentioned that he was watching 1776 and just looking at the first hour of the Mets on Gameday.
I would say that between those two guys and I, you have some pretty Into It Mets fans…and this product cannot fight for our attention. And now we’re gonna deal Jake? So we can hope to have someone as good as Jake in 2023? That’s a tough sell Jeff the GM.
How are you guys holding up with this lost summer?
