Last night with the score 19-0 I was waiting to see what Gare would do if a Mets player hit a HR. I thought the proper thing to do would be an understated call.
When I watched this live last night I thought it ws a terrible call. I think I even used the word horseshit. Let’s take a listen…
Yes, we know we lost, but here’s @JeffMcNeil805’s first major league home run (by the way it was absolutely crushed). pic.twitter.com/Rd63JL3gc2

You know, I am going to walk it back.
Gare has me so predisposed to think he is mailing everything in this season (he mostly is) that I thought he went into his act, but as I listen back with fresh ears…I hear that his mentions of the corner and his hesitation is not him doing his usual to the track, to the wall, but rather an announcer who is not sure if the ball would stay fair.
And since it is a player’s first MLB Home Run, some enthusiasm is warranted.
So, we can all admit when we are wrong, and I was wrong. This was not a Net Negative Home Run Call but actually a rather solid one. Nice work Gare.
Verdict: Scully
