If the NL throws a pennant race and nobody cares does it make a sound?

Hi, I wrote this last night and saved it for today as I have to do things involving airplanes today.

I like Jared Diamond a lot. Unlike 98% of the guys out there, Jared writes original things, doesn’t just follow #TheNarrative and is always interesting.  Today he wrote this:  Get Ready for a Wild National League Finish – WSJ

So I checked it out.  Huh, who knew?

I clicked on the standings and I see….yep…the Phillies and Braves half a game apart (as of 6pm), a tie in the Central and some sort of Diamonbacks/Rockies/Dodgers thing in the west.

And….

I don’t care.

The Mets are 14 out and back behind the Marlins.

The Cubs and Brewers could play a game in my town and I probably wouldn’t bother checking it out because of all the traffic.  You think I am gonna sit through a Diamondbacks-Rockies game on TV?  Not a chance.

Baseball is broken.  The defenders will die telling me the sport is OK, but let me ask you – Phillies vs Braves – are you really gonna watch that or care?

There was a time when a lot of us would watch things like that on Saturday Baseball Game of the Week, or Monday Night Baseball…or all 4 playoff games (back when what you Millennials call the NLCS and ALCS was just referred to as “the playoffs.”)

Now?  Maybe everything has been overexposed.  Maybe there is too much else to do.  But who cares.

Now is baseball doing bad things by having exciting (on paper) playoff races?  Of course not.   But the reality is….

Who cares?

Oh and MLS are idiots for burying their All Star Game on a random Wednesday Night.  Grab the holes in the MLB schedule.  Play it the one week of All Star Week there is no SNB.  Play it the Wednesday after baseball’s ASG.  SHOWCASE YOUR DAMN SPORT.
