Gary has been around for 30 seasons, all the original Mets announcers are in, and Gary is going to win the Ford Frick Award some day and make Cooperstown, so this is a no-brainer. Let’s honor the guy. You can’t tell the story of the Mets without Gary’s calls….bingo, HOFer.
SHOULD HIS NUMBER BE RETIRED: No. He does not have a number to retire. He also should not have a mike icon the way Kiner does. If Bob Murphy doesn’t have that, Gary doesn’t get one. Kiner was Double Hall of Fame, let’s make that the rule for that level of honor.
WHEN SHOULD THE METS INDUCT HIM: 2018 for his 30th season, but they blew that so 2019.
