I’ve laid out the case before how Ron Darling is better than anyone from The Five Aces will ever be. Hard luck JDG? Please. Ron invented hard luck. Koosman to Gooden’s Seaver, Sundance to Butch. Ron was a great New York Mets player.
Then there’s his second act. Yesterday I put Gary Cohen in the Mets Hall. Keith is in. The original Mets announcers are in. Ron should be in. I mean even John Franco is in this thing. Come on, put Ronnie in.
SHOULD HIS NUMBER BE RETIRED: No. Ron messed up and switched numbers too many times. I guess he’s #12 in our hearts but he was 44 there was that nonsense with him wearing 15 (why again? What was wrong with 12?) So no Ron, no number for you.
WHEN SHOULD THE METS INDUCT HIM: hmmm. Well if we have Gary Cohen next year, and David Wright in 2021….2020 would make sense, but I have big ideas for 2020 so let’s give Ronnie the 2022 slot.
