SLACKISH REACTION: A nice productive day yesterday as the nation’s media, and your favorite Mets related website, deep dove on baseball being horribly broken. Nice to have some allies on the cause.
One of the things that occurred to me about the late starts, especially when we start comparing to other sports, is it’s not like the issue is staying up late one night to watch The Baseball Championship Game. You’re being asked to stay up until midnight for a month.
If this was just one game once where the AL winner played the NL winner on October 3rd, winner take ask, OK maybe 8:10 or even 8:40 might make some time zone sense. But to watch even the Mets play 5 games, then 7, then 7 more…that’s a long month of late nights. It’s going to take the Mets to get me to do that.
Anyway, SI wrote that the pace of play has MLB worried.
The WSJ has some ideas – including my NO MOUND VISITS and a variant on my LAST LICKS idea.
The NY Times dares you to name one famous baseball player.
What is not being written is “wow Game 2 of the World Series was great!”
Baseball is in trouble.
NOT LINKING: Some major shade for Mets Blog, continuing to have its worst year. Yesterday they were pushing some “is it time to trade Syndergaard” clickbait. The answer of course was no, even Mets Blog isn’t insane, but then doubled down that the Mets should sign Machado. Let me break a new paragraph so they can pay attention over there.
35 Camden Yards Home Runs in 22 Citi Field Home Runs. Add on top of that some quotes about not hustling and you have a recipe for disaster. The guy might as well change his name to Janny Bachado.
As for the other sites, holy shit everyone is STILL writing about the GM Search.
One of the dopey AAIMBR sites is doing season in review nonsense and reviewed The Virus. Why? Seriously guys, why? Oh and don’t miss the exciting “Free Agent Target” series – today we’re discussing signing Neil Walker. Stop. Just stop. Close down your blogs Oh, did you know Seth Lugo was the most reliable reliever last season. Close down your blogs.
