The Face of The Franchise: The Mets should pray Brandon Nimmo is real

Welcome to the Post David Wright future.

The Mets, for the first time in a long time, do not have a face of the Franchise.

They have a star, Cespedes, who won’t be around.

They have another star, Thor, who is awesome despite SNY trying to trade him.

What they don’t have is the everyday player to rally the marketing around.  Or do they?

By now you’ve gotten to know Brandon Nimmo and his gen-u-wine Aw Shucks personality.  This is a “kid’ you wanna root for.

With David Wright gone, they are going to need such a player.

One thing David did a lot of, that went unreported and unnoticed, was he wined and dined the bigwigs.

If you ever were at Citi Field early, say around 4pm, David Wright was the one who took every picture with every VIP that the Mets had invited on the field for BP.   Shook every hand.  Played nice with every kid.   Smiled at every sponsor

The Mets need that, and I think Nimmo can be that person.

To be that person, you need to be good.   You can’t have the backup catcher take on that role.   But an everyday player who is the most charismatic player the Mets have had in a long long time…hell yeah.

But it only works if he’s good.  For all of us, let’s hope he’s real.  We’re pulling for you Brandon.
