The Belmont Park arena plan was granted preliminary approval by the state-run Empire State Development corporation back in 2017, and has been working its way through the public oversight process ever since, amid persistent protests by community groups who say they don’t want the traffic and transit headaches the arena would bring, as well as concerns that the state land being provided for the project could be worth three to eight times as much as the Islanders group’s $40 million offer. (Gothamist)
Now you may be wondering why I am bringing this up? Is this site now also about the Islanders. No. Here’s the piece you forgot…
That’s right…the Islanders’ partners in the arena are The Wilpons. You know The Wilpons from such businesses as The Overwatch League, BAMTech, the parking lot on 126th street, the mall on parkland (canceled), and a local baseball team.
So…who cares…the Wilpons are building something. That’s what they do. Well…let me read you some more Gothamist…
But in recent days, there have been indications that the plan may have hit choppy waters — thanks in part, of all things, to Amazon. Though state officials say the project remains on track for a fall 2021 opening, the Great Amazon Kerfuffle has now earned State Senator Leroy Comrie a nomination on the same Public Authorities Control Board that helped scare off Amazon from Long Island City. And with Comrie insisting that he won’t allow the arena to move forward unless the Islanders owners agree to pay for pricey traffic and transit upgrades to the site, this potentially sets up another high-stakes showdown over a major development project backed by the governor.
Perhaps if the Wilpons aren’t making as much money as they had planned…or if their real estate business does not see profits on their originally planned timeline, who knows how that could potentially effect their cash flow?
Maybe there’s a stud Overwatch player that would be good enough to lead the New York Excelsior to an Overwatch League Pennant (do they have pennants) but if the Islanders Arena is delayed…maybe they decide not to bring in a gamer to improve the roster.
Now the other sites don’t put these things together because they are all writing the same MIKE PIAZZA VISITED content on every site, but here at Mets Police we resist #TheNarrative and are free thinkers. Anyway, did you see Mike Piazza is OK with the Mets retiring David Wright’s number? Now that’s news.
