I know I killed Tom all summer, but 10 innings of one run ball in the World Series…that’s as good as it gets friends.
That said, the legend of Tom Seaver is gonna owe a pint to Ron Swoboda. I’m not sure how this game goes if Ronnie doesn’t make that great catch….Seaver very easily could have lost two games in this World Series. But Swoboda got it done, and the Mets are on the verge of something amazing.
Hopefully this stuff doesn’t distract the team..
Game 4 was mired in controversy. Tom Seaver‘s photograph was used on some anti-war Moratorium Day literature being distributed outside Shea Stadium before the game, although the pitcher claimed that his picture was used without his knowledge or approval. A further controversy that day involved the flying of the American flag at Shea Stadium. New York City Mayor John Lindsay had ordered flags flown at half staff to observe the Moratorium Day and honor those who had died in Vietnam. Many were concerned, including 225 wounded servicemen who were attending the game, and Baseball Commissioner Bowie Kuhn announced that the American flag would be flown at full staff at Shea for Game 4.[8] (Wikipedia)
