SLACKISH REACTION: Hey this is weird.
After going 0-for-4 in a 3-2 loss to the Astros on Friday, Alonso is homerless in 31 at-bats over 10 games and batting just .194. (via NY Post)
Wow it would be an F’ing shame if Vulgar Pete doesn’t hit 50+ home runs again. But I am confident he will!
I thought I would make a list of MLB players who have hit more than 50 twice in their career. Actually I will make two lists. I will call the lists List A and List B.
List A includes Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire, and Alex Rodriguez,
List B includes Willie Mays, Ralph Kiner, Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth, and Ken Griffey Jr.
150 years of baseball, 8 guys have done it. Pete is sure to be number 9.
Pete will be on one of those lists some day! Hopefully List B with the Hall of Famers and not List A which has some non-Hall of Famers, because I think we all would like to see Pete go to Cooperstown as a Met.
In my research I found it interesting that Bonds only hit over 50 one time and Hank Aaron never did. It also caught my eye that Griffey Jr. had his excellent seasons in the late 1990’s when a lot of players had remarkable seasons. Once might also note Aaron Judge hasn’t been able to match his own 50+ HR season.
But back to Vulgar Pete. I’m sure he will be fine. What would make anyone think he won’t just hit 53 HRs again? I’m confident he will, and join the celebrated players on List B.
LGM!
