Reckless speculation: the Mets schedule if the season starts May 1st because of…..

Hey I know that MLB is totally going to start on time.  Even if  schools are closing, and sporting events being played to nobody, and everyone is working from home, and Italy shut down, and New Rochelle is a containment zone and Trump is the person in charge….baseball is totally going to play a 162 game schedule starting in a few weeks.  Manfred said do.

But, if one were to recklessly speculate….what would a schedule starting on May 1st look like?

My totally uniformed guess will be that they would just pick up the schedule from when they resume.  Call it May 1.

There was that 144 game schedule back after the last labor stoppage…..May 1 would give you approximately a 130 game schedule.   Maybe they make minor tweaks to keep the number of games even, or maybe it’s a “too bad” situation like 1972 when the Tigers won the AL East by half a game and they had played one more game than Boston but too bad.

In my recklessly made up scenario that’s totally not going to happen,  the Mets (and presumably most teams, I am too lazy to check) would lose a lot of division games.  The Mets have 3 against Philly, 7 against Atlanta, 6 against Miami and 6 against the Nets, all before May 1.

Looking at just pure baseball – would 130 games be a bad schedule?  I say no.  In fact its probably better.  We can start with warm weather, and taking 30 games off the schedule should probably make for tighter races.

Would baseball try to make up 30 games?  I say no.

Anyway, baseball is totally going to start on time.  The entire premise of this post is silly.  If you can’t trust the commissioner, who can you trust?  Besides, Trump’s got this.
