Strat-O-Matic Mets drop opener!

Defending Champion Nationals Among Opening Day Winners In Strat-O-Matic 2020 Season Simulation

Red Sox, Brewers, Rockies, Cardinals, Braves Also Record Last At Bat Wins; Astros Bow To Angels, O’s Spoil Cole’s Yankees Debut

GLEN HEAD, N.Y., March 26, 2020—The Major League Baseball season may not have opened today in stadiums across North America, but Strat-O-Matic (www.strat-o-matic.com), the market leader in sports simulations, hopes fans will enjoy the next best thing as it announces results from its first day of simulating the 2020 campaign through its innovative Baseball Daily platform. At 2 p.m. ET / 11 a.m. PT each day, Strat-O-Matic will announce the results, standings, statistics and key game highlights from that day’s scheduled contests through the website, social channels and multimedia presentations.

And just as Opening Day has produced some of baseball’s memorable games, the Strat-O-Matic simulation included numerous exciting contests. The defending champion Washington Nationals knocked off the Mets, 4-3, on a ninth-inning, tiebreaking home run by Howie Kendrick off Mets closer Edwin Diaz. Rafael Devers’s ninth-inning solo shot off Ken Giles gave the Red Sox a 3-2 win at Toronto. Colorado’s Garrett Hampson’s RBI double followed by David Dahl’s two-run single keyed a 10-7, 10-inning victory at San Diego. And Kolten Wong’s leadoff bomb off Raisel Iglesias in the top of the ninth lifted the Cardinals over the Reds.

Pinch hitters also produced two late-inning heroics for wins. The Milwaukee Brewers walked off the Chicago Cubs, 7-4, on a bottom of the 11th, three-run home run by Brock Holt, while Johan Camargo came off the bench to take Yoan Lopez out of the yard in the top of the ninth to propel the Braves past the Diamondbacks.

And though not a last at bat win, Baltimore scored twice off Adam Ottavino in the seventh inning to ruin the Yankees’ debut of Gerrit Cole in a 3-2 Birds win at Camden Yards.

Thursday’s game results are listed below. Full results, standings and boxscores are available at http://www.strat-o-matic.com/2020-season-simulation/.

Lineups and pitching matchups each day are selected in part by fans via social media, special guest managers and Strat-O-Matic’s own team of experts.

“The opening day results reflect the realism and unpredictability of baseball,” said Hal Richman, Strat-O-Matic founder. “I think it’s fitting that so many of today’s simulated results produced exciting finishes, and we look forward to how the rest of the Strat-O-Matic season unfolds, until the on-field games return.”
