I considered third base coach Bud Harrelson. Maybe Bernard Gilkey, but I decided to go with this guy, part of the Pretty Good On Paper Seaver Trade…..
On paper, a starting 2B, a starting OF with pop, a solid SP who won double digit games the year before, and a “prospect” is not the worst trade in the world….unless you trade away Tom Seaver. Then it’s the worst trade in the world.
Let me translate. If the Mets traded pre=surgery Noah Syndergaard for a starting 2B, a starting OF with pop, a solid SP who won double digit games the year before, and a “prospect” it would be good. Or had you traded Matt Harvey for Mookie Betts which you didn’t want to do for some reason. That would have been good.
But JDG for a starting 2B, a starting OF with pop, a solid SP who won double digit games the year before, and a “prospect….that would be a bad trade.
