Baseball Hall of Immortals – Inductee #26: Larry Jones

As a Mets fan does this hurt to say that Larry Jones is an Immortal?  No, not at all.  Jones may have killed the Mets at the plate, but he was never an a-hole (like Utley or Rocker).

Jones was one of the greatest offensive switch hitters the game has ever seen.  Plus he was no slouch defensively at one of the toughest fielding positions on the diamond.

Larry Jones is a great example of “I know someone is an Immortal when I see hem play.”  If you watched Jones’ career, it was obvious he was one of the all-time greats.

As an aside, I chatted briefly with Jones in Spring Training about 10 years ago.  He knew I was a Mets fan (II was wearing a jersey and cap), but that did not stop him from chatting with me for a bit.  I found him a lot friendlier and more approachable than many other “stars.”

Larry “Chipper” Jones is definitely an Immortal.
