Grover Cleveland Alexander made a name for himself right from the start of his major league career, winning 28 games in his first season, still the rookie record. Over the next 20 years Alexander would rack up 373 wins – good for 3rd all-time. For those of you who like fancy new stats, Alexander’s career WAR for pitchers was 116, which ranks him 5th all-time.
Winning 20 or more games nine times, Alexander surpassed 30 wins in three consecutive years (1915-17) while compiling sub-2.00 ERAs in each year as well. His 1915 season was amazing: 31-10, 1.22 ERA, 36 complete games, 0.842 WHIP, and 241 Ks. Even in the dead-ball era this was ridiculously good.
There is no doubt that Grover Cleveland Alexander is an Immortal
