Hey Mets, the Mike Piazza HR 20th anniversary is in 15 months – get a statue ready

I know some have been talking about the Seaver statue….look man, there’s a pandemic.  The idea isn’t to just throw up a statue to shut everyone up, the idea is to celebrate Tom Seaver.  So let’s just punt on 2020 and unveil the Seaver statue next year.   That said, this is yet another reminder NOT TO WAIT on celebrating people.

But with my mind on 2021…..I don’t know if you know this, but on September 21, 2001, Mike Piazza hit a home run that many Mets fans and many New Yorkers are quite fond of.  You may know the story as it gets brought up on social media about six times a year.  Here’s a clip in case you or the new guys at SixersDevilsMets are unfamiliar with the play.

So Mets, let me call your attention to this NOW while you have 15 months.

Now that you’ve embraced statue technology, wouldn’t it be kind of cool to honor Hall of Famer Mike Pizza with a statue of that home run?  Maybe it could come with some sort of contextualizing plaque.

As stunning as it may be, there are actual adults now who were either too young to remember 9/11….and actual adults who weren’t even born yet.

Could there possibly be anyone opposed to this idea?   So Mets, let’s not wake up in September 2021 and have this date surprise us.  The anniversary is coming, and it’s a very predictable date.  It’s 9-21-21.   And MLB, you should go ahead and schedule Braves at Mets right now.

This can also double as a reminder that even in the darkest times, we somehow come out of it, and although it may take a while, you’ll eventually feel better than you did at your darkest moments.

Piazza Statue.  9-21-21.

Spread the word.  The Mets will not do this without massive amounts of pressure from the fanbase, they never do.

Tomorrow Never Knows as they say.  Learn from your Seaver mistake – you waited too long.  You also waited too long to celebrate Ed Charles.  There is no reason to wait.
