The Mets and Braves took place in the team-wide pre-Anthem holding of the ribbon – which is cool but yet has an air of “corporate” behavior as in “we’re supposed to do this, right? How do we do this without messing with the money?”
But during the actual anthem all the players stood. During Thursday night’s Giants-Didgers game, nine players (including brand new Dodgers player Mookie Betts) knelt during the anthem.
“It’s great support from those guys who took a knee,” Smith said. “It means a lot to me. For me, taking a knee just isn’t enough. If you really want to show change, then there are things you can do on your own time during the offseason to show how much you really want to change.” (via Daily News)
But perhaps in the end, Dom Smith has the right idea right there.
Let’s see what happens now for Game 2 and beyond when the camera lights aren’t as strong.
