Vulgar Pete Alonso who enjoys the swear words told the media that “Getting swept feels like eating a (S word) sandwich, to be honest with you.” I’ve never had such a sandwich but I will take his word for it.
Vulgar Pete did hit a home run though, his fourth of the season. He is now batting .231 and has an OPS of .793 for millennials who like big numbers. ‘
And can we talk about Pete’s .293 OBP or no?
Also the media has discovered Exit Velocity and everything is now about Exit Velocity. Exit Velocity is like Defensive Runs Saved but minus Lagares and plus Alonso. Remember Defensive Runs Saved? Nobody talks about Defensive Runs Saved any more.
Pete has struck out 17 times in 58 Plate Appearances for a POLAR of .293
I am here to introduce a new stats call SUX. SUX is calculated by subtracting POLAR from OBP. So if we take Pete’s OBP of .293 and subtract his POLAR which is also .293 you get a SUX of .000
As a comparison, in 2016 Daniel Murphy of the Nationals had a POLAR of .097 (57/582) and a SUX of .497. But he probably didn’t run the bases well and was a Net Negative.
Dom Smith currently has a NEGATIVE SUX….his OBP is only .275 and his POLAR is .291.
You guys can make fun of SUX but I think I just invented a great metric!
Here we see Pete hitting a home run. Note his sleeves. They are legal blue (the team’s primary color). Did someone at @mlb let him know he was in violation on Wednesday? Does Pete just like to mix it up? Hmmmm.
