I have a certain sensibility with this blog. I clearly enjoy goofing on things.
You think you are a super-hero? I will make fun of you.
People compare you to the greatest pitcher after you have four good games, I will make fun of that.
Sometimes, it’s not time for jokes.
Yesterday, late in the day of the Matt Harvey news cycle so more serious things came out – and those are not things to be made fun of. I’ll let all the newspapers and tv stations deal with that part of things. (Do they still talk about sports on AM radio? I guess those guys were handed a gift since football season is over, and I don’t expect the most intelligent discourse.)
I’m very curious about – what did the Mets know and when did they know it?
I also keep looking at the story and see Sandy Alderson in charge of the Mets, and Billy Eppler in charge of the 2019 Angels. I don’t know what’s at the other end of that thread, but I do want to pull it.
Maybe every team has these sort of issues. Maybe it’s just the Mets.
What we did apparently learn via Terry Collins is that there were big stories going back almost a decade and there was a lid on it – for good or bad – which is pretty rare in this town. Were the Mets doing a good job not airing dirty laundry? Was the beat incompetent? Did they just not have enough to run with it as was suggested? Is it none of our business what guys do when not playing?
As for that latter part – well, that’s not the world we live in. If a player doesn’t show up for a sportsball game someone is going to ask why. We live in a culture of celebrity gossip, and I don’t think that genie is going back in the bottle – so the price you pay for showing up in a Maserati with a super-model is that people are going to pay attention to you.
I think there is a lot more about to come out now that the seal has been broken. Tread lightly everyone.
