I went to a baseball game!
It was my first game since David Wright’s last game (*)
* I may have attended a Friday day game at Wrigley in-between but very go with the story
My last game since DW’s. You may recall that game, other than five innings of David, was the worst baseball ever played. Some sort of snooze fest between the Mets and Marlins that went to extras and would just not end.
I thought that game broke my son as it was THE worst baseball game ever to be played
To my surprise he suggested we go to the game on Tuesday so I took him up on it and splurged on Club Seats for $75. This was my view!
Not bad right? So one could see how Gary Cohen enjoys baseball as he’s watching it from the same vantage point minus a few rows and about 10 feet higher. And for free. Or negative free as he gets paid.
This is much more enjoyable than sitting at some crooked angle with idiots getting up every two seconds. The ushers and the culture in Philly do a nice job of having people wait until nothing is happening for people to get up.
The park is simply better than Citi Field. To my surprise nobody argued with me on this point when I said so on Tuesday. I guess the t-shirt people all stopped following me.
I like that the outfield is open. It’s more enjoyable than staring at 50000 ads
They have organ music
The food was fine. I did go through a lot of money. Let’s add this up
Tickets $75×2 plus fees. The Phillies fees were LESS than Stubhub’s fees which are so crazy even Ticketmaster is like, “Really?” So $190 to get in. I could have gotten $14 tickets and chosen it to. That’s on me.
Two cheesesteaks, a large beer, water and one fries was like $56. That said I was full from my cheesesteak and fries and the large beer made it 5 innings.
My son wanted Crab Fries so we got that and a soda and that was another $19. I mentally wanted a hot dog and I love crab fries but I was stuffed.
$22 to park.
So let’s see $180, 22, 56 and 19 – lazy math that’s $280 or so? For two people to have a GOOD experience at the ballpark?
It will likely be my only Mets game of the year. Maybe I will do a Wrigley gamebas I am often in Chicago as part of my job at MI-6
So I don’t regret it, in fact we had a great time and made some memories, but it sure isn’t inexpensive. And I got home at 12 but baseball didn’t make me drive to another city so that’s on me.
Also baseball is boring.
