15 years! That’s the amount of time between Kirk maroon Khan for all eternity on Citi Alpha V and Khan coming back for Vengeance!
So, long story short, 15 years ago I thought it was really stupid that on the one day everyone wears the same uniform number that the uniforms don’t have names on the back. I think there should NEVER be names on the back, but if you are going to have them, today makes sense. But like with most things, baseball gets this wrong.
Along the way I made some friends (hi @ceetar, hi Paul Lukas, hi Rusty and Faith and Fear Guys, Cerrone (!), and whatever happened to Kerel, and hi T-Shirt Guy!), annoyed some people, got involved with the start of the Queens Baseball Convention, took bullets defending Murph over Ike Davis (I was right), eyeballed you people who called Matt Harvey “The Next Seaver” (I was right) and dudded Jacob deGrom “The One True Ace” when you all had crushes on Harvey and Syndergaard….and yeah, I was right.
There was a World Series. The uniforms got fixed in 2012 before Steve ruined them again.
I went to a lot of games and then stopped going to games as my son aged out and baseball became increasingly unwatchable, culminating in David Wright’s last game which was the worst baseball game ever played, a boring Mets-Marlins snooze fest that went extras.
Blogs were hot back in the day. These days you don’t really go to websites, they come to you – so traffic is nowhere near what it was during that All Star Game Summer 10 years ago – but that’s true of most websites. I was early on twitter so amassed the following there….and twitter is starting to die now, so who knows what’s next.
I don’t like a lot of the players on the team, especially Lindor who went out of his way to let the fans know he doesn’t like them – and you Lindor supporters truly are fools.
Anyway, it’s been a fun 15 years although less fun the last 5 or so, and definitely no fun since that pandemic season. Now we have DH baseball where half the teams make the playoffs, and black uniforms are back and the black uniforms are worn by people who don’t like the fans. That’s not an attractive combination on which I spend most of my time.
That said, I remain committed to my goal of encouraging the Mets to win the World Series while nicely dressed. After that, I am off to Save Star Trek.
Hope springs eternal, right – and maybe, just maybe, I will be able to reignite my passion with a post that says “Somehow, Daniel Murphy has returned…” Wouldn’t that be something!
Thanks for following, and Let’s Go Mets which has three words not four.
Much thanks to Media Goon for his major contributions over the years.
