And while the biggest haul would come from moving Pete Alonso, the Mets do not plan to engage other clubs about the superstar first baseman.
Alonso is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2024 season, and as one league source put it, “if they don’t feel like they are going to sign him, the offseason is a better time to talk about trades, because more teams would be involved.”
Long term followers of this blog know the Mets shoudl have traded Pete a long time ago at peak value, and that his value is only diminishing by the day. They should have signed Freddie Freeman (I find MVPs are good to have on a team) but some of you are like OOOOOOO HOME RUNS IN BUNCHES and that seemingly makes Uncle Steve scared to risk his popularity.
So, hold on to Pete. Watch another decade slip away. Enjoy seeing the words IKE and DAVIS show up in articles again. Don’t trade Pete….he might hit some home runs and stuff.
Anyway, when the Wilpons finally sell the team and we have a cool owner with an open wallet, he won’t be stupid enough to leave in charge. a man who once gave Matt Harvey $11,000,000 to pitch for Anaheim. Nobody is that stupid.
