Here’s a letter Steve (and Alex for some reason, they really seem to want to make her A Thing) sent to Season Ticket Holders.
The most interesting part here is the declaration of The Core 5: Brandon Nimmo, Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, Jeff McNeil and Edwin Díaz, This core has won one playoff game in an era of overextended playoffs.
So…one guy is out for the year for playing in a made up tournament, so that’s just proof the organization is stupid. Nimmo is likable. Lindor booed the fans and should be sent away, McNeil is nice enough but has a WAR of 0.9 (but you guys only seem to do WAR when Daniel Murphy is involved – and, sidebar, Murph is only hitting .285 with 1 HR in AAA so that comeback looks stalled)….and then there is Pete Alonso who I keep telling you hits 4 HRs in 5 days and then sucks in major batches. Here’s some examples….

Hopefully Boras does us all a favor and asks for so much money that even Steve says no. Of course we will be idiots for not trading Pete and getting some Eplleresque GM to overpay…but I can only scream about that so much.
Here’s Steve’s letter and thanks to X for sending it to me.
Let us start out by thanking you for your continued support of the New York Mets. We do not take your support and loyalty for granted. It is your passion that makes Citi Field such a special place. When we purchased the team in 2020, we said that we were doing it for the fans, our community. It was true then, and it remains true today.
When our players arrived in Port St. Lucie for Spring Training, you had high expectations for the club and so did we. We added several key pieces to our team, but things have not turned out how we planned. You are rightfully disappointed and so are we.
This is not where we wanted to be in 2023. Our goal is to be a consistent contender. The only way to do this in a sustainable way is to build a pipeline of high caliber talent in our farm system that will fuel our major league team for years to come.
As we approached the trade deadline, we made the decision to expedite that process. It became clear we needed to pivot and build for the future. The trades we made over the last several days have allowed us to do that. In a very short period of time, we have infused an unprecedented amount of top-tier prospects into our system that would otherwise have taken years to accumulate.
Our front office was able to acquire young, exciting athletes who excel in multiple facets of the game. These include top prospects, infielders Luisangel Acuña, Marco Vargas, Jeremy Rodríguez, Jeremiah Jackson, outfielders Drew Gilbert, Ryan Clifford, catcher Ronald Hernandez and right-handed pitchers Justin Jarvis, Coleman Crow and Landon Marceaux. It’s going to be fun watching them rise through our system as they develop and learn to win together.
We want to thank Max, Justin, Tommy, David, Dominic, Mark and Eduardo and their families, and wish them luck with their new teams.
We promise you, we will work hard to field a competitive team in 2024. Our core group of experienced players including Brandon Nimmo, Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, Jeff McNeil and Edwin Díaz, plus supplementation in the free agent market, will allow us to put together a formidable team next season.
For the rest of the 2023 season, we look forward to watching the continued development of Kodai Senga, Brett Baty and Mark Vientos as well as Francisco Alvarez, who was just named the National League Rookie of the Month. You’ll see exciting baseball being played by the longtime Mets you have grown to love, along with the new kids.
We hope you’ve experienced all the great new enhancements around the ballpark – not just the giant scoreboard! We’ve created a more fun environment from DJ nights, cultural celebrations, fireworks, new lounge and party areas to our award-winning food. Our fans having a great time at the ballpark is important to us and that’ll never change, it will only get better as the years go on. Wait until you see what’s in store for next season.
We can’t stress enough how grateful we are for your continued support. Without you, none of this would be worth it. We believe in this organization and our future, which only got brighter over the last few days.
