Man, what a great morning!
ESPN’s Paul Hembekides was a guest on Buster Olney’s “ESPN Baseball Tonight” podcast and said….
“I lived this with Ryan Howard. You can’t compare players apples to apples, but I do think there is something instructive in comparing these two profiles just as a cautionary tale.”
“Pete Alonso’s processed-based stats haven’t really improved,” “His swing decisions, his strike zone discernment. We know that he adds no value on the bases. We know that at best, he can fake it at first base.
“We’re talking about a player who can’t add value on the margins.”
“I want to know for sure that he has old-man skills. I don’t know for sure that Pete Alonso has old-man skills … I can easily see Pete Alonso falling off a cliff similarly to how Ryan Howard did,”
Olney said the Mets and Pete are “very, very far apart”
What a great morning!
