Don Kelly. Will this guy manage the 2024 Mets? No

What Don Kelly might look like if he were the manager and it was a pinless throwbacks night.

MLB.com took a look at some managerial candidates and threw out Don Kelly.  Who?

Kelly has served as the Pirates’ bench coach since 2020 under manager Derek Shelton and was interviewed for the Mets position last time around.

Kelly, who spent eight seasons in the major leagues after making his debut at 27, has seen the game from all angles. After retiring, the Pittsburgh native served as a professional scout for the Tigers in 2017 and 2018 before making the leap to become a first-base coach with the Astros in 2019. (via MLB.com)

Not happening.

“Hey guys, it’s me, Uncle Steve, and I know every hire I make turns out to be a disaster (except Buck, who I fired, and that was me not David Stearns who didn’t even work here yet so how would he know about it) – anyway, we are committed to a new new new new new new new culture of winning, please welcome in Don Kelly!”

That’s not how George Steinbrenner Cohen rolls.  Not sexy enough.   Not happening.
