Pete Alonso chooses Mets Immortality

With the Mets down two last night I started doing some lineup calculations and realized if someone got on base, Pete would likely be up with two outs in the 9th and the tying run.  I wondered on Twitter how Pete’s story would end….would his last AB as a Met be a strikeout to eliminate the team, or would he choose immortality.

Pete chose the latter.

It wasn’t the prettiest home run, more of a check swing, and Jeff Passan said Pete “knew” it was out – which is pretty bold for a ball that was out by like 4 feet.

Pete, vulgar as he may be, now makes the Mets storybooks forever.  Whatever came before or whatever happens next, this is one of those Stories that the Mets good new ad campaign is alluding to.

These are not (at all) “My” Mets, these group belongs to another generation of fans, but this will be one of their stories.  Pete got it done when it needed to be done.  LGM.

Baseball should have a good month.  The Wild Card ratings were good (The Mets/New York surely helped.)   Now they get a great Mets-Phillies Matchup with two strong TV markets.  On the West Coast they get Padres-Dodgers with a lot of star power.  On the AL Side, hopefully the umps know to rig this for the Yankees.  It’s good for business.
