Politicians get even closer to handing parkland to billionaire to build casino

Politico reports:  Citi Field’s casino team lobbying against Bally’s ahead of key Council vote

On the Mets-related end of things…

As the Bronx bidder tried to whip votes in favor of the resolution, and over the objections of the local lawmaker representing the area, the team behind a competing casino bid backed by Mets owner Steve Cohen embarked on a lobbying effort of its own, according to several people familiar with the calls.

“Their large army of lobbyists is going very hard,” said one Council member familiar with the matter who requested anonymity to speak freely. (via Politico)

My sense of things is this is more or less a done deal and Mr. Cohen will get his way, and we the people will had over parkland to a billionaire.  I’m sorry if you don’t think the parkland is pretty enough, but it IS parkland.

I continue to encourage Mr. Cohen to buy some other land and build his casino there.   if he’s serious about just wanting the place to look nice, I’m confident the could afford some easy improvements.  I’ll even chip and buy 100 of the benches myself if Mr. Cohen would like to make the park nice without a casino on it.  Lemme know Steve.

Also this is a fun video.
