Mets 4th of July Jerseys 2026 and $56 caps

Interesting that the player they picked is Bichette!!!!

These would look a million times better with the piping.  See below.

Howie Rose has had a HOF career but he HAS said two stupid things.  One of course was the infamous “Hodges Moment” but the other was when he said the road jerseys look better without the piping.  That’s probably when Howie knew it was time to retire once he realized what he had said.

The $56 caps suck.

I will just bust into my closet and wear this one from many years ago – a Stars and Stripes fashion jersey.  Which of course has piping.  Come on Howie, take that one back before you retire.

The Knicks and the Mets – 11 is better than 12

I had a great season.  As an admitted casual front-runner bandwagon fan, the 2025-26 Knicks were a pleasure.  I saw all but four games – I had a wedding, I missed the Clippers game (back to back late night games, but I did watch the Lakers the night before), the Sunday night game I forgot existed when I was watching football, and one night I was in Europe.

Us casuals don’t care what the Knicks wear.  Black uniforms?  Sure.  Weird court?  Fine by me.  Fake-fan celebrities (not the real ones, the fakes), sure!  The B and C team announcers some nights?  I didn’t mind.  I was even all into the NBA Cup, where as the MLB version would annoy me.

Plus what a likable bunch of guys who always kept playing.

And then….there are the Mets.  The Mets always seem to annoy me.  This week it’s this Spider-man Mask.  I am enjoying pointing out to them that the original of Spider-man is that HIS UNCLE WAS MURDERED.   For a team whose identity is based around a supposedly benevolent “Uncle” you’d think someone would think that through.

But then there are the players.  Some psychos are saying things like “The Mets are only 4.5 games out of the Wild Card!”  Yay?  The third wild card?  Yay?

Even if this group were to win it all – is that what we even want?  THIS group?  David Stearns looking all smug.  The SS that was a jerk to the fans having more rings than Mike Piazza?   Soto doesn’t seem like he wants to be here.  I guess there’s a case for being happy for the rookies and “rookies” (newer players), but I’m not sure I’d feel attached to these Mets.  The Mets are many things, but they aren’t likable.  At best they are just…kind of….nothing.

The Knicks?  Even beyond the stars you had guys like Shamet.  Or Kolek.  Or Mitch.  Or my personal favorite, the agent of chaos, Jordan Clarkson.

The Mets?  Yay some faceless relievers got 9 outs.

The comeback in Game 4 gave me feelings I haven’t felt since 2 outs in the bottom of the tenth one October forty years ago.  I am glad my son got to feel those feelings.  I am glad I got to feel them once more, even if I were a casual bandwagon frontrunner.  It was a great ride, I’m glad I got to take it, and nobody gave me a thumbs down.

The Mets, as always, waited too long

Congrats to Lee Mazzilli on making the Mets HOF.

I wish I felt more about this.  I idolized Lee growing up.  I own the poster I used in this image.  Lee was everything during those postSeaver  years…

…and yet, the Mets (and MLB in general) have managed to make me not care.  I can’t be bothered to go out there today.  Or watch.  Or stop my other plans to check in on it.  Or summon up 1000 meaningful words about Lee.

I was glad he got to come back in 1986 to collect that ring!

I don’t have it in me to even fake a post this morning, so I will just say congrats Lee, and thanks for all the memories.
