Baseball Hall of Immortals – Inductee #11 : Edgar Martinez

When you are the best ever at your position of course you should be in the Hall of Immortals.  There is no doubt that Edgar Martinez has been the greatest Designated Hitter the game has produced.

Prior to Martinez, the typical DH was a slugger who didn’t hit for average and couldn’t move well enough to play the field.  Martinez changed that.  In 14 full seasons with the Mariners, Martinez batted over .300 in 10 of them, winning the bating title twice and driving in over 100 runs six times.

The DH has been a part of the game for almost 50 years now, and while I personally don’t like it, to not acknowledge that it is now an integral part of baseball is just silly.

So to the greatest DH ever, welcome to the Hall of Immortals.
