After Steveapalooza we heard from Sandy Alderson2.
Sandy was less “lawyer-y” than he has been in the past where it felt like every answer would talk about things being conceivable or possible.
He seems a little older than we remember, but hey I am older than he remembers.
Here are some words I typed while also working a job.
First we heard from Steve Gelbs who was rehearsing with his Prince tribute band.
Sandy said we’re gonna have a new head of baseball operations and it’s not gonna be me.
Sandy praised Steve Cohen’s superior intellect and enthusiasm.
it is possible we will have a GM below the President of Baseball Operations.
“I’m not gonna make the baseball decisions.” We will have a process, it’s gonna be collaborative.
He talked about how he’s not some sort of life long Mets diehard (I am not putting this down, he’s being honest) and said his biggest moment was probably a Wilmer Flores home run.
“We don’t wanna just be known for winning, we wanna be known for how we win” PREACH SANDY. No more signing Braves and guys running out on the Red Sox.
Sandy talked about changing the LOLMets “narrative” – I was pleased he didn’t use the word culture.
Sandy says he speaks with Steve Cohen 2-3 times a day. He did not mention how often he speaks with Gary “Net Negative” Cohen, whose influence possibly cost the 2016 Mets from winning the division. Don’t listen to GARY Cohen.
Sandy said “I’ve committed to a couple of years” – unclear to me if he was speaking casually or ifs being the lawyer he is, couple means TWO. But its open ended,
He said not to look at his tenure with the Mets and make assumptions. Was kind of suggesting that things will be different without the Wilpons.
Sandy said if the timing had been different that the Mets might have been in on Brad Hand. Again Sandy being lawyerly and saying maybe or possible or whatever word he used.
“We can now maximize the acquisition rather than the cost”
Sandy is not happy about the elimination of some minor league teams. Talked about the connection those teams make with communities.
We’re gonna be in Brooklyn, St Lucie, Binghamton and Syracuse. Brooklyn will become a year long team.
“We’re gonna grow our own players.”
Hmmmm…..there are now people interested in working for the Mets who perhaps were not interested before. Hmmmm.
