Steve Cohen doesn’t know where he was for the Buckner Play????

In the Post you will find an article by Steve Serby which winds up feeling like it was written by a 4th grader because it was done over email.  The end result is a series of Q and A with no flow, no follow-up.  Just “hey remember when you were in the Beatles, that was cool” type random thought-starters.

Most fans will gush over it because Steve is just the grooviest.

One thing REALLY jumped out at me (well two, but I will leave the second one for another day)…

Q: Where were you when Mookie’s grounder went through Buckner’s legs and what were your emotions?

A: I don’t remember where I watched it — but I was not at the game. You could see the fans erupting on TV, people going crazy. I was pretty excited, myself. It’s one of the most exciting comebacks in World Series history. (via NY Post)

Wait – time out.

EVERY Mets fan knows where they were at that moment.  What kind of big time Mets fan was watching the game and doesn’t remember where they were?  I was sitting on the edge of my bed, head in my hands waiting for my friend Jim to call me and razz me.  I’ve told the story here before (and in my book Send The Beer Guy.)

And twitter follower @danrusso points out – the play means so much tot he guy that he bought the ball!

So whaddaya mean you don’t know where you were?

Seriously, do YOU know where you were?  The answer is either YES with a million details or something like “I wasn’t born yet / I was too young to remember.”   There’s no way you in your 30s and don’t know where you were that night unless you weren’t watching the game or weren’t a Mets fan that night.

This does not add up.  Of course on email Q&A there was no follow up.  The next question is basically “Dwight Gooden, he was cool, right?”

The media will just gush over how groovy Uncle Steve is, but this is fishy.  You know it’s fishy.  Let’s talk about it.

Actually let me tag on here…

Q: Favorite Darryl Strawberry memories?

A typical Mets fan would be like – oh man when he hit the roof in Montreal…or wow remember the night he hit the clock.  I am not going to explain these moments because if you’re a Mets fan you know what I am talking about.  Steve’s answer…

A: He had that long, smooth lefty swing. You knew that every time he came up he could hit a home run.

Kinda generic, no?

And a reminder for those of you that still support Wilpons Owned Television – Steve does not own SNY.

Q: What’s happening with the SNY talks?

A: Nothing. We’re not in talks with SNY.
