Uncle Steve continues to improve the team – we now have a catcher, some middle relievers and a new first base coach! It’s really different now that the Wilpons are gone.
That new coach is Tony Tarasco, and as a friend has reminded me, he was previously a coach with the Mets!
Let’s jump in the time machine to 2002….
Although sources say Tony Tarasco admitted to the police that he smoked pot with Mark Corey, the Met outfielder would make no such admissions to the press yesterday afternoon. You might say Tarasco was stone-walling his questioners.
…
Reporters and everyone following the Mets want to know what Tarasco knows about the marijuana cigarette Corey admitted he smoked in a published interview Thursday.
“You know guys, I really can’t comment on that right now,” Tarasco said before the Yanks beat the Mets 11-5 last night. “My prayers are with him. Once again, I can’t comment.” (via the New York Post)
And Bobby Valentine of course…well…
Manager Bobby Valentine acknowledged being worried about drug use on his team as far back as spring training.
“I’ve seen signals, but nothing definitive,” Valentine told Newsday. (via Washington Post)
That all seems quaint now. Given how society has changed and we’ve just lived with four years of ridiculous behavior from the leader of the nation, I am pretty sure Pete Alonso could smoke a joint while rounding the bases and nobody would even blink (except me of course).
Please welcome back our old friend….Tony Tarasco!
