FLUSHING, N.Y., September 2, 2021 — The New York Mets today announced the club has claimed LHP Brad Hand off waivers from Toronto. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the Mets designated RHP Geoff Hartlieb for assignment.
Hand, 31, is 5–7 with a 4.21 ERA (24 earned runs/51.1 innings) and 21 saves in 52 combined games with Washington and Toronto this year. He began the season with the Nationals before he was traded to the Blue Jays on July 29. Hand’s 21 saves all came with the Nationals and he ranks ninth in the NL in saves.
During his 11-year career with Miami, San Diego, Cleveland, Washington and Toronto, he is 31–50 with 126 saves and a 3.70 ERA (271 earned runs/660.0 innings).
