OMG PLEASE STOP TALKING

Look, we’re all familiar with dumbed down national broadcasts where the announcers tell us Mets fans we know really well – so I can forgive spending an inning on the Squirrel nickname.

What I can’t forgive is the non-stop chatter.  Just absolute wall to wall words.  It didn’t matter what the words even were, it’s just that they didn’t ever stop.

Baseball needs to breathe.  A simple “The 1-0 outside, ball 2” followed by 7 seconds of silence is a nice thing.  Especially on TV where we have pictures.

The worst offense last night was the half inning discussion of giving a foul ball to a kid.  There was nothing new there.  Not original. Not interesting.

In better news – the camera work was good.

Whatever – Not enough replays.  I find the fonts too small for my old eyes.  I don’t care about the probability nonsense in the lower right, but I was able to ignore it.  No ticker is a good thing, constant bottom tickers drive me nuts,

But the booth was torture.  Please stop talking.  Just stop talking.

Stop.

Talking.

and now for some Sterling or Scully….

 

Total Sterling move there…that whole Let It Fly sounds like a forced catch phrase.

Then there’s this mess.

So one of the roles of the PBP announcer is to describe the play. I don’t want to hear about the placement of the booth in DC, that’s an excuse and you have a monitor. I knew at home it was gone. Get the call right.
