New Feature: Pete Alonso Trade Watch Watch! (and why they should!)

Welcome to the inaugural Pete Alonso Trade Watch Watch.

This works just like a Manager Watch Watch…to catch teh newbies up, a Manager Watch happens when it is obvious a change is coming.  A Watch Watch watches to see what people are writing about the impending Manager Watch.

In this case, a Pete Alonso Trade Watch Watch will keep an eye on….and wait for this folks….what people are writing about, you know, maybe, perhaps, possibly, probably not, but what if…THE METS TRADE PETE ALONSO.

Any watcher of baseball knows that Pete hits homer runs in bunches, but hitting 5 home runs in 6 days every three and a half weeks is not a way to win the pennant.  If you don’t believe me, check the flags at Citi Field.  Even Daniel Murphy has an NL Title.

So, although they reject the idea, it is interesting that the New York Post DID write about trading Pete!!!

For a worthwhile sale, you need to have valuable pieces to sell. And unless the Mets decide to dangle star slugger Pete Alonso (unlikely!), their sale looks less like a Sotheby’s auction and more like one of those mid-1970s Aqueduct flea markets.

Alonso would obviously bring big value as one of baseball’s very best home run hitters, not to mention an impossibly fast recoverer from injury. But as one rival said, “The fans would revolt if they traded Pete (via New York Post)

And there’s the problem.   Steve likes being popular.  So instead of doing the right move, he will do the popular move.  Over and over and over.  And another decade will be wasted.

There surely is a fool GM out there who will watch the Home Run Derby and be like “oooooh Pete Alonso” and give back a nice haul.  Take the haul Steve, before the off-season and Boras/Pete declare that they won’t negotiate in-season….you really run the risk of getting nothing for this guy.

And what might life be without Pete?  Jeez, what’s the worst that happens, you’re 18 games behind the Braves by July 4?  I am confident the Mets can do that without Vulgar Bear.  #LGM

By the way – if you find the idea of trading Pete unthinkable, google “Nomar Garciaparra” and let me know what you find.
