In better news, Mets By The Numbers had 17 issued to Chin Lung Hu and I nearly lost my mind, but now the Mets say Hu is #25. Whew. Although that ruined a good blog post. Drat.
Castillo will be cut soon enough so Mookie will get it back
I can’t believe Mookie can’t pull rank, but at the same time (and I’m in no way defending Castillo here; I can just see the reasoning), Castillo has worn it his whole career (save for his rookie year). But I’d like to think Mookie knows something Castillo doesn’t and is like, “No, that’s OK. I don’t need to take it from you … now.”
Castillo is (unfortunately) a veteran Met and he’s worn #1 for almost all of his career. There’s no way you just take it from him to give it to any coach.
It would be a nice gesture if he offered it to Mookie once they get to spring training, though.
I suspect it will be available soon enough anyway.
It would be wise to offer it to him. might slightly help get the fans off your back.
I’m betting that, should Castillo still be a member of the Mets even that long, this number is on Mookie’s back before Spring Training ends.
