Chilling out at the Mets opener

Wow, I’m back from the chilly Citi Field.  As Opening Days go I think this will blur in with many others (I can picture sitting in the mezz at Shea for several Rey Ordonez starts that all blur together) but I had a ball.

Here’s a random brain-dump:

– Kiner throwing out the first pitch just felt right.

– the Mets honored Pete Flynn

– the Mets took the field to the classic organ version of Meet the Mets

– lots of blue and orange.  Pinstripes and blue caps.

– huge ovation for Mookie.   K-Rod got some boos.  Alex Cora got a surprisingly big hand (as in on the Nationals).

– I didn’t see much “new” at the park but I was with the entire family and didn’t tour the park like I usually do.

– the between innings BJ’s game needs some work.  It is some sort of “guess the price” game, but the actual price of the item at BJ’s was higher than any of the guesses….so BJ’s is the place where prices are higher than you think?

– speaking of BJ’s, I didn’t notice Mr. Met drop by but I can’t say that he didn’t.  I just didn’t see him.

– Jose Reyes turned one of the best DP’s I have ever seen.

– I bought a $3.50 cup of hot water with a hint of chocolate which was using the Unnamed Donuts Chain Brand

– for the most part people behaved, but thedrunken sloppiness was showing up around the 6th.  Mrs. MP brought it up on her own.  I think the Mets are going to need to get even more serious about serving alcohol, and they are already very serious.  I’m not ripping the Mets at all, but they are gonna have to figure something out.   People are idiots.

– I’m bored with smelling like smoke just because I try to leave the stadium.  The Mets need to enforce the no-smoking rules on the LF ramp.  This may become my new “black.”

The Mets have tweeted this picture of the new 1986 exhibit at the Museum.  Mrs. MP was a little slow getting us to the game so I didn’t hit the museum.  Junior and I will take some pics tomorrow night..

That reminds me the Mets have a cool “team history” video that ran before they took the field.

@newyork mets also said: New food item at Citi Field this year – Hot Pastrami on Rye Stand located near section 135 on the field level. Check it out!!

You tell me what color you perceive in this photo.  Good job folks!

And it looked bluer in person.

The flag rocks.

Does looking at the picture with the crooked angle make anyone else nauseous?  I’m getting vertigo.

I’m going to go thaw out.  You own this terrible font Wright jersey.

  1. I could be wrong, but I thought they specifically announced that the LF ramp was one of the places you *could* smoke…

The other highlight today was Pagan’s catch deep in CF, but that might have been after you left.

    1. This was lower…down by the 100s.

Smoking within Citi Field is prohibited, except for the three designated smoking areas located at:

Plaza Level – Left Field Gate
Field Level – Center field staircase landing across from the back of the CitiVision video board
Promenade Level – The top of the ramp across from section 527
Any ticketholder smoking in any location other than the three specified above is subject to ejection without further warning.

  2. Take a look at the baseline box ticket prices on Stubhub for Monday night’s game. There are over 200 tickets listed at the exact same price- $9.00. And these aren’t sets of 4 or even 6 tickets. There are postings for up to 24 tickets for this price. You’ll see the same thing for Ceaser’s Club tickets for Tuesday and Wednesday night, at $15.00. Is it possible that the Mets are trying to move tickets on Stubhub at a steep discount? As a season ticket holder who paid full price for my tickets, I’m more than a little suspicious.
