At the start of tonight’s broadcast Howie Rose observed that the Mets are wearing blue for the 4th straight home game, used a phrase along the lines of “as they should” and said that the new equipment manager (Kevin Kierst) plans to mostly keep it that way.
In 2010 I was told by the actual Mets that the starting pitcher chooses the uniform. I don’t know if the policy has changed, but my fantasy of the 2010 scenario was always something like this…
Charlie: Hey I’m gonna lay out the blacks
Barely Listening Pitcher X: whatever bro
It’s like being married. If I wake up in the morning and my wife has laid out a pink shirt, guess what I will wear to work. If she doesn’t lay out clothes I grab a Mets jersey.
Kevin, I think we’re gonna be friends.
…
Interesting that Gary Cohen just pointed out the Mets haven’t run a wheel play in like 6 years. Now that he says it…he’s right. Wow.
Also..does anyone else have to reach for their reading glasses before blogging? I made it one sentence into this post before squinting. Kirk said it best when he said, “Damn.” And can you believe Kirstie Alley was once super cute?
Now everyone go buy some blue merch and reinforce the Mets’ behavior!
Yeah Shannon, your getting on in years. Its a good thing I am the young guy that helps out here sans glasses.
Seriously, nice to see the blue at home.
Ok I am waiting for the Michael comment about the black.
Hats off (blue ones) to you Kevin!
Personally, I thought the “starting pitcher picks the jersey” line was an obvious lie to give cover to the formerly-beloved Charlie Samuels. I mean, think about it–what, they polled the SP probables for each road trip to know what to pack? It was a ridiculous story on its face.
Howie my friend Jim Picard [pic] worked with the Islander for years I worked with him at Tampa Bay Lightning. My Brother will bring all the class the team needs! Look at what he has done!!! What a great story of this KID…….
Hey, maybe if you posted some shots of the uni’s instead of the empty stadium us out-of-towners could smile?
I’m suprised Charlie Samuels didn’t sell all the jerseys. Its great to see them dress in the blue and orange!Isn’t that what the songs says? All they have to do is get rid of the Party Patrol and the black shadow in the home pinstripe jerseys and we are in business.
I’m not buying the “new equipment manager” line. Fred & Jeff just finally let them turn on the lights in the locker room.
