Also…some people get mad at me when I say the season is over because of the lousy start. Here’s an interesting stat:

So basically they’ve been the second hottest team in baseball and lost two games in the standings to Atlanta, one of the teams ahead of them.
Look, I hope I’m wrong and they go on a 35-5 tear and you all call me an idiot when they win the East. I’m not giving up on them, I still hang on twitter every game (@metspolice) and post here 5x a day so I don’t want to hear that I’m not a fan…but I am a fan who can do math, and knows that the pitching is thin, the corner infielders are out, it makes sense to move Reyes.
For me, I’m just enjoying each individual contest. If at the end they somehow have an x next to New York in the standings I’ll be thrilled…but I’m not counting on it.

Re: the season, I noticed that, too. Last night, I was looking back at the first big-ish winning streak and couldn’t help but notice that when that came to an end, they were 2 games under .500 and 8 or so games back. After all this series-by-series success, they entered last night in pretty much the exact same place.
I’ll start paying attention to the races once and only once they get above .500, which has alluded them (case in point, last night). Until then, I’m like you: game by game just for the nightly enjoyment.
BTW, I don’t see a whole lot more 14-9s now that they’re through with the Astros.
