  1. That is the perfect Met uniform. An interesting note (those Uni Watch guys read this column a lot):

From 1962 through today, a lot has changed with the Mets and their uniforms except for one thing – they have always worn the exact same number font for home games…standard block . It has never changed…drop shadow or not…that’s pretty cool. The road jersey is a different story. From 1962-1971, they used a greatvarsity font. When they went from flannel to double knit in 1972, the basic font was the same, but slightly thinner (that’s the one Mays is wearing above.) Starting in 1974, they started screwing with it so bad, I don’t even want to get into it. When the Mets recreated this jersey in the mid 90s, they used the home font. I’d love to see them recreate the jersey with the original font(no black certainly). The font still exists…the Braves for one use it…so do the Yankees, in a one color use.

  2. the ump was augie donatelli who liked to lay on the ground to watch a close play at the plate. my friend was a mets bat boy who said fosse never touched him !!
