5 things to love about the Mets this weekend

In my blogger’s handbook it says people are more likely to click on “list posts” and posts with numbers in the title.

That combined with my lack of anything pressing for this morning, and my desire to have a recurring random feature leads us here.

#1. Keith Hernandez, broadcaster

 

I love Keith. He doesn’t care. He comes across as he barely wants to be there. He let’s you know that today’s ballplayers are a bunch of girlie-men as opposed to back in the day. He has some rings to back it all up. If he were some other team’s hero you’d hate him. Imagine the “I’m Steve Garvey” episode of Seinfeld…I’m mad just thinking about it.

 

#2. The twitter hang

I love the twitter hang. During Mets games a bunch of us hang on twitter and comment. It’s wonderfully random. Last night we all discovered we’re obsessed with the twins with the thick accents in the Nissan commercial. Are they even twins? I’m @metspolice and you should follow me

#3. The #imwith28 phenomenon

 

Poor Dan Murphy. He led the team in hone runs in 2009, yet those mean beat writers couldn’t wait to anoint Ike. Where’s Ike now?

 

Then Dan went to AAA to learn a new position and got hurt. Never to be seen again. The Mets discounted Murph stuff at the team store. I scooped it up.

Then they said Murphy couldn’t play second and the Mets put Emaus (is that how it’s spelled?) on the all star ballot.

Then people named Turner the New Franchise

So Murph went about his business and got his average up to .309

So Terry benched him so Nick Evans could start. Then they DFA’d Nick.

#4. Future Hall of Famer Jon Niese

Niese will finish his career with 294 wins, which is frustrating because the bullpen blew lots of wins for him his rookie season.

Jon has stuff. He’s so young. I hope he’s around for a long time.
