Here is a comment from last night’s crowd shots post which also included a pic of the Ike Davis bobble head.

Isn’t there a Gold’s Horseradish Bobblehead Curse? It struck again.
Seems like there could be. I haven’t given it much thought but Steve sure did.He tipped me off to this post from the NY TIMES Baseball Blog. This is from May 25, 2011.
Since 2002, nearly every player who has been commemorated with a bobblehead sponsored by Gold’s Horseradish has already been injured, gotten injured or ended up performing poorly. Marc Gold, co-owner of Gold Pure Food Products and a lifelong Mets fan, said that his company’s signature horseradish has “tons of of health benefits.”
I never thought about this before. Or, I have and I just don’t remember it. Thank you Hypnotoad.
Lets check out some of the Honorees shall we?
Mike Piazza was given a bobblehead day in 2002 and finished the year with 33 home runs and 98 runs batted in. The next year, he hit 11 home runs in 68 games.
I think that one is a stretch.
Kaz Matsui, who was heralded as the next Ichiro, was given a bobblehead. “Great preseason hoopla,” Gold said, “But …”
He just straight out sucked. Remember when Reyes was moved to 2nd for him?
Jason Bay was celebrated. “Where did the home runs go?” Gold said. “He did not even play on his bobblehead day.”
Bay must have that bobble head in his locker. He still isn’t doing anything.
The streak appears intact this year. The next Gold’s Horseradish bobblehead day is on Tuesday, July 19. Hopefully this year’s recipient, Ike Davis, will be off the disabled list by then
And, we all know Ike might be done for the year.
How many people actually eat horseradish?? seems like a strange sponser to being with…
I thought the same thing too, Mike. Apparently they make mustard that is served at Citi Field and some other condiments. The company started in Brooklyn so I wonder if there is some connection to Wilpon there. I love the bobblehead giveaways and hope Gold’s continues to sponsor them, maybe I will even buy their mustard sometime to say thanks.
Mike and Adam you can’t have a Bloody Mary without horseradish. Marc Gold, co-owner of Gold is a lifelong Mets fan, so that would explain the sponsorship.
