I imagine Media Goon bought his Sunday-plus-games-he-doesn’t-want plan with the thought that he’d go to baseball games on Sunday afternoon. How many games were moved to 8pm? How many games were on Tuesday?
The smart answer which many of you will bring up is that he’s a fool and he should just Stubhub the games he wants. You are right.
My question to the Mets and MLB is, “Why would you want to motivate a loyal customer to NOT buy a ticket-plan?”
As long as MLB continues to pull these Sunday baits-and-switches — Sept. 11’s Cubs-Mets has been moved from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. for ESPN — why can’t MLB do the half-decent thing and return the ticket money to those who don’t wish to attend or can’t attend on a school/work night?
Queens Councilman Peter Vallone Jr. says such “flex-for-TV-money” scheduling concerns him:
“In Queens, Sunday afternoon is family time. Sunday at midnight isn’t, unless you’re the Addams Family. MLB should not put parents and working adults in this difficult position. It should, at a minimum, provide a credit.

I have spent much of the summer in the Pacific Time Zone. You know what happens Sunday at 5pm in the summer? Nope, you don’t head inside to watch Mets-Cubs because you don’t care about Mets-Cubs. It doesn’t matter if the game is on at 5pm, 4pm or 10am. You don’t care about it.
I get the business of televising a prime-time game, but traditionally prime-time on Sunday starts at 7pm….so the 8pm start is doubly stupid. You’re not garnering west coast fans, and those on the east are just sitting on their hands for an hour.
Anyway Media Goon, enjoy that 8pm start on September 11th. I’m sure the pre-game b-roll of 9/11 will be well worth it as the Mets take on the .393 Cubs.
Oh, and by the way ESPN – the Jets play America’s Team at 8:20. Good luck with your NYC ratings dream.
I buy the Sunday tickets because that is one day I know I am not working. I work anywhere between 12-18 hrs a day and when I work on a set truck, my working friday becomes what we call in the film biz a Fraturday. I could get home at 9 am from the day before at work and not even think about going to a game on Saturday. I love where my seats are. I don’t want to Stubhub tickets. But I am going to complain like a madman to the Mets about these stupid 8:05 Sunday moves. So my only choice is a Sunday ticket. The weekday games I have been able to make this year so it wasn’t so bad. Last year was horrible for me with work trying to get to weeknight games.
Just get rid of Sunday Night Baseball…players, announcers, umpires and many fans hate it. When I was a kid, I loved MONDAY Night Baseball…no need to reschedule games. Mondays are often the first game of a big series…Fridays are also and no school the next day. I would do summer games on Mondays and when school starts, move to Friday.
Agreed, they are coercing me out of a child friendly plan.
When the next TV deal comes up, ask ESPN to foot the bill for all refund requests for any games they move to 8 p.m. after the original schedule is announced. If they don’t want to do it, force them to make all their picks at the beginning of the season.
